Do You Want to Get Into A Great Art College?

Queens, NY – Queens Council on the Arts is excited to be recruiting new students into the High School to Art School (HS2AS) fall session, which will run from October – January, Thursday and Saturdays. Interviews will take place Saturday, October 4th at 9am at QCA, 37-11 35th Ave, (Entrance on 37th St) Astoria, NY 11101. Fall session is an intensive art program where students will be strengthening their portfolios before senior year begins by skill building, visiting art museums and galleries, and participating in group critiques. Art Info Day will also be held on Saturday, October 25th, at QCA, where students will hear a panel of art professionals discuss their careers in the arts.

Students submit an online application and a group of applicants are invited to interview. Applicants bring five drawings to the interview to be reviewed by our teachers. Participants are then chosen based on merit and need, we hope to reach students who would otherwise not receive services.

“I have found myself learning a lot not only about art but the idea of it. I’ve learned that the idea behind art can be just as important as the art piece itself. This has opened my eyes and led me to look at art pieces in a different light. The program not only helps me become a better artist but let’s me explore art intellectually, through a lot of writing and thinking.” – Sobel Pizarro, junior student

QCA’s High School to Art School Portfolio Development Program (HS2AS) provides high school juniors and seniors with high quality arts skills training including portfolio development, college application assistance, and financial aid planning for college. We prepare our students to compete for admission to distinguished art programs in colleges, universities, and art schools through portfolio preparation and the college/art school application process.

Having served high school students of all backgrounds in the greater NYC area for over a decade, HS2AS has helped over 800 students reach their goal of being accepted into the best art programs and colleges throughout the country. HS2AS students have been accepted to The Cooper Union, Pratt, Parsons, New York University, Fashion Institute of Technology, CUNY-Hunter College, SUNY-Purchase, RISD, and more.
